Search for a DC marketing agency that “does AI search” and you’ll notice something odd. Nearly every page that ranks is written by an agency, and nearly every one of them finds room for itself on the list.
I don’t think that’s sinister. It’s just how the market works. But if you’re a managing partner, a communications director or a founder trying to choose who gets your budget, you deserve a list that tells you what’s known, what isn’t and how to check the rest.
That’s what this is. Below you’ll find twelve Washington-area companies that say they do AI search marketing (also called GEO and AEO), what each says about itself, who each might suit on paper and a method for choosing between them that doesn’t depend on anyone’s sales pitch, including mine.
How This List Was Made (Read This First)
Last updated: October 2026.
I built the shortlist from agency websites, press releases and 2026 local roundups. Here is what I did and didn’t do.
I did not take payment or referral fees from anyone listed. I did not hire, audit or test any of these companies, so I can’t tell you which one delivers the best results. Everything in the profiles is self-described by the firms or by roundups they publish. And I haven’t ranked the companies, because I have nothing to rank them on. Groups below are by type of firm, and the order inside each group carries no meaning.
I also left out agencies that show no real DC presence, including firms that list the District as one of several unrelated markets. And I’d gently suggest treating any “top companies” list, mine included, as a place to start your research, not finish it. At least two of the roundups I found while researching, one from Mavenj SEO and one from Web Tonic, include their own firm on the list.
Pricing is private for nearly all of these companies, so I haven’t invented numbers.
Quick Picks by Need
If you want a fast starting point before the detail:
- You want a specialist focused on AI visibility, done for you: start with Monic AI Systems and PBJ Marketing.
- You also need a new website or brand work: look at Design In DC and Dupont Creative.
- You want AI search folded into an established SEO and paid media program: Silverback Strategies, Thrive Internet Marketing Agency and Gigawatt Group.
- You’re a law firm: InterCore Technologies positions itself specifically for legal marketing.
- You sell to government, healthcare or nonprofits: A2Z Dev Center and Gigawatt Group both describe work in those areas.
- You run a regional service business with a mid-sized revenue base: Squires Media Group targets that profile.
These are matches on paper, based on what each company says. Whether any of them performs is what your due diligence should settle.
What AI Search Marketing Actually Includes
Traditional SEO tries to rank pages in a list of links. AI search marketing tries to make your business easier for AI systems to understand, trust and recommend, so you’re mentioned or cited in tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews.
A credible program usually includes technical SEO and structured data, clear entity details about your organization, answer-focused content, digital PR and third-party mentions, review and reputation management and monitoring of how often you appear in AI answers. Google’s own guidance on its AI search features points back to the fundamentals: helpful content, crawlable pages and a good page experience. No secret switch exists.
That’s why strong agencies talk about SEO and AI visibility together. If a firm claims AI search marketing replaces SEO, be careful.
Why DC Is a Different Market
Washington buyers are often risk-averse, committee-driven and credibility-obsessed. Think federal contractors, associations, law and lobbying firms, nonprofits, healthcare providers, universities and professional services. Those buyers ask AI tools to shortlist vendors, explain regulations and compare options, and the tools lean on sources that look authoritative.
That affects what you should expect from an agency. You want people who understand registries, trade press, association directories and the YMYL (your money or your life) standard that applies to health, legal and financial topics. A generic playbook built for online stores won’t cut it. For a deeper look at the DC playbook, see our guide to AI search marketing in DC.

DC-Based AI Visibility Specialists
1. Monic AI Systems
Monic AI Systems describes itself as a boutique AI visibility consultancy in Washington, DC, founded by Monica Tomasso. It says it provides done-for-you GEO, AEO and AI automation for small and mid-sized businesses, and it offers a white-label program for SEO agencies that want to add AI visibility. In a June 2026 press release, the firm announced it had become an OpenAI SMB Channel Partner, though that says nothing by itself about client results.
On paper, it may suit: mid-market firms that want an outsourced, hands-off program. Ask about: what “done for you” includes, how much access to your subject experts it needs and how it reports results.
2. PBJ Marketing

3. Web Tonic

It also publishes its own roundup of DC AI marketing firms in which it appears first, so weigh that list accordingly.
On paper, it may suit: teams that want a clear picture of who AI engines currently cite in their category. Ask about: how it measures change in AI citations over time.
Full-Service DC Agencies Adding GEO
4. Design In DC
Design In DC is a digital agency headquartered in Washington, DC, with branding, web development and digital marketing alongside a GEO service. One refreshing detail on its GEO page: it states that no agency can guarantee specific outputs from a black-box AI model. It says it tracks brand mentions in AI answers, appearances in Google AI Overviews, referral traffic from AI platforms and a “share of model” measure against competitors.
On paper, it may suit: organizations that need a website rebuild or brand work alongside AI search. Ask about: how its GEO work is staffed, separate from its design practice.
5. Dupont Creative
Dupont Creative is a DC digital marketing agency offering SEO, PPC, social media, web design and content strategy, with a GEO service aimed at appearing when prospects use tools like ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity. Its GEO page references campaigns for a healthcare provider and a law firm, which are self-reported.
On paper, it may suit: professional-services firms wanting a general agency with a GEO offer. Ask about: the actual metrics behind those campaign examples and over what timeframe.
6. Thrive Internet Marketing Agency
Thrive is an established agency serving the DC market with SEO, local SEO, content marketing, PPC, web design and AI SEO. It reports AI initiatives that include visibility and traffic growth from platforms such as ChatGPT and Gemini.
On paper, it may suit: companies that want a larger, established team and a broad service menu. Ask about: who will work on your account, and how much of the AI work is done by specialists versus the general team.
7. Silverback Strategies
Silverback Strategies is a performance marketing agency based in the DC metro area, with SEO, technical SEO, content, AI search optimization, AEO, GEO, paid media and conversion optimization. It says it works with larger B2C brands.

8. Gigawatt Group
Gigawatt Group is a performance marketing agency offering AI SEO, SEO, content, paid media, brand strategy and web development. It says it works with corporations, associations and nonprofits, which fits the DC buyer mix.
On paper, it may suit: associations and nonprofits wanting a combined strategy across search, AI platforms and media. Ask about: examples of association or nonprofit work and how it measures AI visibility.
9. Pivotal Consulting Group
Pivotal Consulting Group describes AI and future-oriented marketing strategies for the Washington metropolitan area, including AI search optimization, large-language-model visibility strategies and preparation for conversational commerce.
On paper, it may suit: organizations that want a forward-looking strategy as well as execution. Ask about: concrete deliverables, because “strategy” can mean a lot of things.
Vertical Specialists
10. A2Z Dev Center
A2Z Dev Center offers SEO, AEO and GEO for DC organizations, with emphasis on government, healthcare and professional services, and it pitches programs aimed at federal contractors. It claims no other DC agency has built dedicated business-to-government GEO programs. Treat that as marketing until you see the evidence.
On paper, it may suit: B2G firms and regulated-industry organizations. Ask about: which public registries and directories it works with and how it proves impact.
11. InterCore Technologies
InterCore describes itself as an AI-powered legal marketing agency serving law firms in Washington, DC, with GEO, AEO, SEO, Google Business Profile management, content and paid search.

On paper, it may suit: owner-led, mid-sized service businesses. Ask about: reporting frequency and what a typical first quarter looks like.

How to Choose: A Scorecard That Works

Pick your top three from this list of AI search marketing companies in Washington DC, then run each through the same checks. A simple 1-to-5 score on each line will tell you more than any sales deck.
Proof of results. Ask for two comparable clients and what changed in AI citations, qualified leads or revenue. Be wary of screenshots of a single lucky mention.
Measurement. Do they track prompt-level visibility across more than one platform? Do they report referral traffic and conversions, not just impressions?
SEO fundamentals. A firm that is weak at technical SEO will struggle at AI search. The foundations overlap.
DC understanding. Can they explain your buyers’ questions, registries and trade press without being coached?
Subject-matter access. Good AI search content needs your experts. If an agency plans to publish without interviewing anyone, expect generic output.
Transparency. Who does the work? Is anything outsourced? What do you own at the end?
Compliance awareness. Essential for legal, health, finance and government-adjacent clients.
Fit and chemistry. You’ll work together for months. Notice how they handle hard questions.
Questions to Ask on the First Call
- What will you deliver in the first 90 days, specifically?
- Which AI platforms do you track, and how often?
- How do you separate AI search gains from ordinary SEO gains?
- What do you need from my team each month?
- Can I speak to a client with similar needs?
- What happens if results are slow?
- What do I own if we part ways: content, data, reports?
Red Flags
Guaranteed placement in ChatGPT or any AI answer. No one controls those outputs, and one DC agency’s own page says as much. Promises of results in days. Heavy reliance on mass-produced AI content with no expert review. Long contracts before an audit. Vague reporting. Any tactic involving fake reviews or tampering with Wikipedia.

What Does It Cost?
Most DC firms quote privately and price to scope, so I won’t hand you a made-up range. Here is how pricing usually works.
A paid audit or diagnostic. A fixed-fee starting point that maps where AI tools mention you and your competitors. It’s a smart first purchase because it limits risk.
A monthly retainer. The most common model for ongoing content, technical work, PR and reporting. Retainers scale with the number of topics, locations and platforms tracked.
Project work. Technical clean-up, schema builds, site rebuilds or a content sprint.
Whatever the model, ask what’s included, what’s extra and how you’ll know it’s working. Avoid contracts that lock you in for a year before you’ve seen an audit.
Should You Do It Yourself First?
If you have a capable marketer and a few subject experts, you can run the first month yourself. Write 25 questions your buyers ask, test them across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google’s AI Overviews and record who gets named and which sources get cited. That alone will show you whether you have a problem and which agencies’ pitches are serious.
Then bring in help for the pieces that are hard to do in-house: technical fixes, digital PR, ongoing measurement and content at volume. If you’re also evaluating the tools side, our AI Software and Marketing Software guides cover what’s worth buying, and choosing business software without overspending is a helpful primer.
Your First 90 Days With an Agency
Days 1 to 30: audit and baseline. The agency maps your current AI visibility, competitors and cited sources, and checks your technical foundation. You get a written baseline.
Days 31 to 60: fixes and content. Entity clean-up, structured data, and the first batch of answer-focused pages built with your experts.
Days 61 to 90: authority. Third-party mentions, reviews and directory work begin, and you re-run the baseline to see what moved.
If at day 90 you can’t point to a clear plan, a measured baseline and early movement on at least one metric, have a direct conversation.
Mistakes to Avoid
Hiring on a “Top 10” list alone. Including this one. Lists are for building a longlist.
Paying for a guarantee. If someone promises AI placement, walk away.
Choosing a generalist for a specialist problem. A regulated or B2G business may need vertical experience.
Skipping the audit. You can’t judge progress without a baseline.
Outsourcing your expertise. Agencies can structure and publish. They can’t supply your credentials and experience.
Ignoring your own site. Slow, thin or blocked pages undermine everything else.
Chasing screenshots. One AI mention proves little. Look for patterns over months.
FAQs
Who are the top AI search marketing companies in Washington DC?
Firms that appear repeatedly in 2026 local listings include Monic AI Systems, PBJ Marketing, Web Tonic, Design In DC, Dupont Creative, Thrive Internet Marketing, Silverback Strategies, Gigawatt Group, Pivotal Consulting Group, A2Z Dev Center, InterCore Technologies and Squires Media Group. I haven’t tested any of them, so use the scorecard above before you decide.
What is AI search marketing in DC?
AI search marketing in DC is the work of making a Washington-area organization easier for AI tools to find, trust and recommend. It combines SEO, answer-focused content, consistent business details and third-party mentions so tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google’s AI Overviews can cite it accurately.
How is it different from SEO?
SEO aims to rank pages in search results. AI search marketing aims to get your brand mentioned or cited inside generated answers. They overlap heavily, and good technical SEO is still the foundation.
What services does an AI search marketing agency in Washington DC provide?
Typically AI visibility audits, technical SEO and structured data, entity and brand clean-up, answer-focused content, digital PR, review management and monitoring of mentions across AI platforms. Ask which services are done in-house.
Can any agency guarantee I’ll appear in ChatGPT?
No. AI outputs vary and no agency controls them. You can improve your chances by being clear, consistent and widely cited, but guarantees are a warning sign.
How long does it take to see results?
Expect months. Technical and entity fixes may show movement sooner, while authority-building takes longer. Judge progress by trends in AI citations, qualified traffic and leads over a quarter or more.
How much does AI search marketing cost?
It varies by scope, and most agencies price privately. Common models are a fixed-fee audit, a monthly retainer or a one-off project. Get a written scope before comparing prices.
Should I choose a DC-based agency?
It helps when your buyers are in government, law, associations or nonprofits, because local knowledge of registries, trade press and buyer behavior matters. Check each firm’s actual DC experience, not just its address.
How do I measure AI search results?
Run a fixed set of buyer questions monthly across several AI platforms, record who is named and cited, and track AI referral traffic, branded search and leads. Results vary between runs, so look at trends, not single answers.
Do I need an agency or can I do it myself?
You can do the audit and the first round of content yourself. Bring in help for technical work, PR and ongoing measurement.
Final Thought
If I were choosing among the top AI search marketing companies in Washington DC for a mid-sized organization today, I’d shortlist three firms from different groups: one specialist like Monic AI Systems or PBJ Marketing, one full-service agency like Design In DC or Silverback Strategies and one vertical specialist if my sector called for it. I’d pay each for the same small audit, compare what I got and choose the one that told me the most uncomfortable truths in the clearest language.
And I’d skip anyone who guarantees placement, hides behind jargon or can’t show a comparable client.
The right agency isn’t the one at the top of a list. It’s the one that can show you where you stand, explain what will change and measure it honestly.
Ready to start? Pick three companies from the table above, send each the same brief and ask for a baseline audit. Then compare. For more marketing and software comparisons, browse our Marketing Software, AI Software and Business Software guides.
